The VFW Constitution states in part that, among the purposes of the association, is the requirement "to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans...". The National Veterans Service carries out that mandate of our Constitution and translates it into action in accordance with our VFW motto, "To Honor the Dead by Helping the Living".

There are thousands of organizations, each with a specific purpose or goal. There are so many reasons why one should consider becoming part of an organization he or she believes in. In order for our organization to succeed, we must have membership growth. The growth for the Department of Latin America/Caribbean, and Post 3835 is coupled with the recruitment of new members and the reinstatement of former members. The coming years are expected to be a period in which attacks on veteran's programs and entitlements will become more vigorous and voices opposing them more strident. Our need for recruiting more new and reinstated members will continue to be the backbone of our growth. The major question of this decade therefore, is whether we will allow the absence of the active duty population in Latin America, and Panama plus the declining veteran population to affect our positive growth and therefore, our ability to represent America's veterans. Every eligible veteran, has a responsibility to increase the membership growth in the Department and Post 3835. Membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars entitles you to a free $1,000/$1,500 personal accident protection policy; personal assistance securing government benefits and entitlements for veterans; and consumer discounts on vision, dental and chiropractic care and prescriptions. Membership also enables you to join the VFW Credit Union. We are asking every eligible veteran to proudly join in our fight. We are ASKING you to become part of our advocacy for veterans and military benefits. JOIN us and you will have done your part in attaining our goals. Arthur J. Littesy, USAF Retired Post 3835, Commander

Our mission statement

1)    To support programs to increase awareness of the sacrifices of America’s veterans.
2) To promote citizenship education, volunteerism and positive youth programs.
3) To facilitate aid for veterans and their families in need of medical, rehabilitative, educational and employment services.

The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars is a benevolent, volunteer, nonprofit membership organization, which serves local communities through the world.

The VFW is a great organization. It is a way to unite and commemorate the men and women who fought for freedom and peace. We are not an advocate group for war. Without getting in to that whole issue (War) we will say that many people have seen the benefits of the VFW in the Panamanian community. We continue to dedicate time, energy and finances to worthwhile causes and events in the community. The men and women are respected, admired and thanked for the sacrifices they have made during wartime as well as the services they continue to provide.
